​Leavenworth and Atchison Counties.

Imagine being 7 years old, alone in the court system with no one to help you. Harper is a seven-year-old little girl that lives in foster care and depends on the system to make sure she is safe. Harper doesn't always get to go to court when decisions about her life are made. With court being on Zoom children are rarely able to participate but if Harper has a CASA Volunteer, her CASA Volunteer can be in court. If Harper doesn't have a CASA Volunteer, the judge will not know what is going on in her everyday life and the judge will not hear what Harper wants the judge to know. A CASA Volunteer will get answers to important questions that keep Harper safe and happy...like; does Harper have enough food to eat, is she going to the doctor, is she safe in her home, is she able to visit her parents safely, is she allowed to visit her siblings, is she going to school and how are her grades, how many foster homes has she lived in this year, and how many schools has she attended this semester? Harper has been abused in the past and having a CASA is one of the strongest ways to protect Harper from more abuse.

Our budgets are tight and like the rest of the world we did not plan for this Pandemic. We did not have funds set aside to anticipate the extensive impact COVID-19 would have on our program, essentially the complete loss of all fundraising revenue. We did not plan to cancel all fundraisers in 2020; and we did not plan to use all of our reserves to keep our doors open, but we have, and they are gone. The loss of fundraising income in 2020 means CASA is running out of reserves and if we don't raise funds soon, we will be forced to cut services to children like Harper in 2021.
